Open Letter to the Kickstarter Stories Team

To the Kickstarter stories team,

If you have not given your time today, I would like to ask for it. I would love the opportunity to share my Kickstarter project story with you. I hope that through that story, you may come to love the Six Forms project. It's been almost 18 years in the making now.

The project is a trading card game (TCG) that asks the question, "What if cards were like chess pieces on a board?”

To answer that question, I had to fail 37 times. 37 versions were not a delight to play. Many took 4+ hours to play and never felt like a combination of chess and a classic TCG.

Many TCGs like to say they are chess-like because they involve strategy and stop at that. But Six Forms actually tries to give nods of respect to the 1,400-year time-tested game of chess. In fact:

  • You can play it on a tournament chessboard.
  • You move cards just like you would a bishop or rook.
  • You must position cards just right so you can move and shoot through the undefended gaps on the board to eliminate your opponent’s cards.
  • You can corner your opponent’s cards as you would checkmate a king.
  • You win by taking out the king — the actual player.

Why 18 years to make the game? Because a young kid with a dream never gave up and never conceded. I didn’t always have time to work on the game, but I always came back. I tried and tried and tried until, after growing from a kid to a man with a career, a new family, and finally, a game I thought was fun. It took 18 years because the game I had in mind demanded I wait until I grew and it was ready.

Now, that dream can be real. It is real. And I want as many people as possible to know it exists on Kickstarter.

If my story is something you can help me share, please check out my page. As an indie game designer, getting tagged under “Project We Love” would be an honor.
